the quest for spirituality
Date: 24.11.18
All the books are going to come from my library. And I'm going to start with books that you probably wouldn't read. I have my chances of you have read this book. If you have, I'd be shocked. It's called Banging The Door, and it's by SRI Ravi Shankar.

The poem starts:
Are you happy?
Are you sad?
Don't move an inch.
The journey has begun.
If you move, you are light years away.
Neither East Nor West nor North nor South
Don't move an inch.
Warms move through books and birds sing his songs
Don't move an inch
Fill the lobbies of logic with the smoke of her presence.
Don't move an inch.
The roof is on with a billion stars sun and moving around you
Don't move an inch
So that the waves of love may rise in your heart and rock your life in total Bliss.
I am the path, the goal, and the Seeker
Don't move an inch.
Do you know who you are? How do you introduce yourself when someone asks Who are you? Do you often end up saying what you do or who you are in a relationship to someone else? I'm a doctor or something else. Are you what you're doing? Is that all you could be? Becomes a tenor today or tomorrow. You could be a teacher. You could be a parent or a patient in bed. You play many roles to in my eyes.

But the sum total of all the roles cannot equal you. When you identify yourself with the characters, you limit yourself, and you're unaware of the totality that you are. Essentially this is the Quest, who am I? What is my nature is the beginning of the spiritual journey? The human nervous system can inquire about itself, about the quality of living, and about the life of being. This very Quest is the beginning of humanness. The process of identification.

It serves some purpose, but it is not the final truth. It is not absolute. The spiritual journey is the search for the source. Where have we come from? What is the source of this life? All the major religions of the world move people towards this search for the cause. But in the process, many have gotten stuck in their positions. Today, there are wars all over the world in the name of religion. One takes place. I am a Muslim, I am a Christian, I’m a Hindu a Sikh or I’m a Buddhist. Then they feel sorry. I have a question. If I'm Hindu, Sikh or Buddhist. Those who are not like me are not mine. They don't belong to me in the process of identifying.

That is what's happening, isn't it? Is it not sheer madness? We call it Patriotism when it comes to the question of nationality. I'm a Canadian or American. There is no difference between Canada and The United States. There are no borders. There is nothing drawn on Earth. The land does not speak to say I am Canada or I am America. This is just a line on a map.

The whole world is United. There's Oneness. The search for the Unity. Is it a real spiritual journey? Unfortunately, the so-called spiritual journey has divided human beings and has torn societies apart. The distinction between religion and spirituality should become clear in our minds first. I usually give the example of a banana and its skin. Faith is the banana’s skin. And spirituality is the banana. People have thrown away the banana and a holding onto the surface.

Religion is the outer rituals and habits. A way of life, spirituality, is the Quest for the source of life. Going back the cause and knowing that deep within us, we would find out that we are part of divinity. When this decision becomes manifest in our minds. Our journey toward source begins. Then, we become human. Then, we become United to that principle which has enormous intelligence and orderliness. It is beneath all existence, and beneath every, that is happening. On this tab, everyone has to walk alone. There is no proxy walking.

Means being close to somebody, you cannot share someone else's walk and say: “yes, I walk there.” Someone else cannot eat or drink for you. Someone cannot say “I've drunk your tea for you just relax.” That doesn't happen. The quest is the need of the of every growing soul. As a natural phenomenon, it comes from some unknown Corner. Some hidden area of yourself. If our nervous system is stress, then the thought that comes in is distorted, and we say it is negative. If the nervous system is transparent, then we call the feeling that comes positive and creative. Every scientific discovery or every work of art has sprung from that unknown area. Every poem has come out of, and that area is in every one of us. That is what we are. That is the real introduction to ourselves. Opinions change.
