Thich Nhat Hanh is a Zen Buddhist monk. Chapter one (Book: You are here). I want to tell everybody this book got me through some of the darkest times of my life.
There's this much of the book left that I haven't read yet. So you're about to go through history with me, at a time when the nights were very very dark and the days were dark, too.
Here we go: “happiness and peace are possible” chapter 1 “every 24 hour day is a tremendous gift to us. So we all should learn to live in a way that makes joy and happiness possible. We can do this.
I begin my day by making an offering of incense while following my breath. I think to myself that this day is a day to live fully. And I make the vow” You know what a vow is? I make the vow to live each moment of it in a way that is beautiful, solid and free. This only takes me three or four minutes. But it gives me a great deal of pleasure.
You can do the same thing when you wake up. Breathe in and tell yourself that a new day has been offered to you. And you have to be here to live it. Now let me tell you something about this author, so that you can see with my eyes.
I said chapter one happiness and peace are possible, then immediately he got into a technique. On how to change your life. The very first paragraph of the book offers you a way out of problems.
You don't need books that tell you for like three chapters what they're going to tell you on chapter 4. “You're going to be learning this and learning that and then you're going to learn this.
Then this happens and now I'm going to give you…” This guy goes right in and explains how he does it. He says “this is what I do every day and you can do it too.” He actually doesn't even tell you something that he read or he says, “this is how I start my day.”
Now this is a powerful man, who can speak like this. If a man can teach you by telling you how he wakes up and shares the first three to four minutes of his life and you can change your life, I want you to ask yourself, what level of a human being are you facing?
How many people's first three to four minutes of the day if you heard them, would actually change your life.
